A new Sony Xperia flagship smartphone will take place on May 13th. Only a few other telephone brands have such a rich photographic heritage and use most of them to attach a camera team to try to get the same praise. Samsung dropped the ball
Brand recognition is very important and it is one of the top reasons why many people buy a Samsung smartphone. Those who want a Samsung phone with a brilliant camera usually choose the Ultra model, whereby the Galaxy S25 Ultra is the latest. The problem is that the camera of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is decent, but not spectacular.
I recently returned from a long weekend with the Galaxy S25 Ultra as the main camera and spent a lot of time to edit the photos I took so that they look as I wanted it. It doesn’t matter to me to edit photos, but I don’t think it should be a necessity, but I think it is with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. A small change to get your preferred look is one thing, but it is completely different that you have to edit photos just to achieve an acceptable baseline. Colors, contrast and exposure never look directly from the camera.
It is a serious problem because the main camera is affected, which also suffers from poor stabilization that leads to a lack of sharpness. The Galaxy S25 Ultra defeats the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max in our camera test, but lost in the main camera category. Can a camera be described as “the best” in a test in which we all not win the most? Overall, the camera of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is very good. However, I do not consider it the choice of photographer and leave the door open to a challenger.
What about Google, Xiaomi and OnePlus?
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra was my favorite camera from 2024, and while the camera from Xiaomi 15 Ultra is very, very good, it is not quite As good as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. In contrast to Samsung, Xiaomi does not do everything himself and works with experts Leica to improve and optimize the camera and software. There is Xiaomi the prestige that it takes to become a big player in the smartphone camera world.
Xiaomi also takes smartphone photography very seriously. It creates an accessories that looks like a camera-shaped shell for the phone and looks complete with a built-in battery, physical camera controls and the possibility of attaching filters. However, striking accessories are not really important whether the camera software has not entirely obtained the latest hardware changes, which is the case with the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.
OnePlus also works with a camera brand, Hasselblad and the OnePlus 13 takes up great photos. But is it star? No, but that’s not really what it provides for. At the moment, the OnePlus 13 is really the best all-round Android phone, and most people will be very satisfied with the camera, just as they will be with the rest of the phone. But I do not think that photo enthusiasts will flock to it and they are not quite. Hasselblad’s name may be on the back, but it is much more branding exercise than to optimally use the camera hardware.
Then there is the Google Pixel 9 area. The camera’s camera is indeed very good, almost regardless of which model you buy, but I honestly can’t say that it is Everything best You can get more. In recent years, Google has spent playing around with AI-driven functions like Add Me, and I don’t have the feeling that it is so difficult to take better photos. Brands like Xiaomi gave the opportunity to be the camera.
It is the chance of Sony
All of this means that another smartphone manufacturer gives a chance to interfere and use the crown with the words “Best Camera Telefon 2025” to claim the crown. To do this, it must need brand recognition, preferably integrated without taking a partner. It takes extensive experience with cameras and lenses. It has to understand how the software can be set behind the camera and it has to understand what photographers want.
Sony ticks this box. In 2019 I visited the Sony headquarters in Tokyo. I saw first -hand how it used his massive experience to revive his smartphones. The team explained why nailing eye tracking technologies was important, as its display experts were called to approved the screen, and the cameras responsible for the alpha cameras in optimizing the camera software. Sony was in the process of turning over his smartphone division and at the time to compete with Samsung, Apple and Huawei.
A real chance to sew the title of the best camera phone from 2025
